Happy Pride Month 2025! June has long been treated as a month-long celebration for the LGBTQ community. But, you might be asking, why June? That’s because of the Stonewall Riots, a pivotal event in the LGBTQ+ rights movement in the United States!
On June 28, 1969, a police raid at the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City, sparked spontaneous protests and clashes. At the time, LGBTQ+ people faced widespread discrimination, and police raids on gay bars were common. But that night, patrons and community members fought back, marking a turning point in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights.
Thanks to the generations before us, LGBTQ folks face considerably less discrimination now, and it’s important to celebrate the progress that has been made!
Celebrating Pride Around The World
Whether you’re a member of the LGBTQ community or an ally, you can celebrate Pride! Major cities around the world typically have Pride parades and fun events, so don’t be afraid to explore.
