One of the popular sports in Georgia is wrestling. It is a historically important sport because historians believe that the style of Greco-Roman wrestling incorporates many Georgian elements. For instance, the Kakhetian style is one of Georgia’s popularized styles of wrestling.

Vladimer Khinchegashvili ( ვლადიმერ ხინჩეგაშვილი0) who was born on April 18, 1991, is one of the famous Georgian freestyle wrestlers. He competed at the 2012 Olympics and won a silver medal, and at the 2016 Olympics, he won a gold medal in the wrestling competition.

One of the Georgian professional basketball players is Zaur Pachulia (ზაზა ფაჩულია) who is also known as ‘Zaza Pachulia.’ He was a former player of the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association or the NBA.

He is recognized in the country and the world as the ‘Greatest Weightlifter of all time.’ This is because he holds the all-time world record despite different weight category competitions since 2021.

Georgia is also known for its race circuit, the Rustavi International Motorpark, used for playing motorsport. Mevlud Meladze (მევლუდ მელაძე), who was born on September 5, 1972, is the country’s famous motorsports promoter and racer. He also became the 2014 champion in the Formula Alfa of Georgia.

Field ball sport is also known as Lelo or Lelo Burti in Georgia. This is a Georgian folk sport that is very similar to rugby union. Playing the Lelo Burti uses a ball with a pumpkin shape and is played in a rectangular field. It is also described as a brutal physical Georgia sport and considered a ‘nonmaterial monument’ in the country.
