These words and phrases are also a big step toward learning Vietnamese and speaking the language more fluently without any hassle. If you are ready for that, let’s get started!

Common Emergency Phrases In Vietnamese

Tôi cần giúp đỡ!

English Translation: I need help!

The first phrase you need to know is how to scream, “I need help.” Saying this will help the other person understand that you are in trouble. It is one of the most useful phrases you should learn before traveling to Vietnam. Tôi cần giúp đỡ! can be used generally as we do in English.

Làm ơn giúp tôi

English Translation: Please help me!

The next phrase is Làm ơn giúp tôi. Làm ơn giúp tôi means “Please help me” and is similar to what “Tôi cần giúp đỡ!” says. However, using the word please emphasizes that you need urgent help, which will attract people more. Nevertheless, it is always polite and generous to add please and be precise as Tôi cần giúp đỡ! when you are asking for someone’s favor. It makes the other person more willing to perform the act of helpfulness.

Có ai giúp được không

English Translation: Can anyone help?

Another way of seeking help and coming out of an unfortunate situation is to ask someone for help. While the previous two phrases were demanding service, to be more appealing and kind, you can ask instead of telling by saying Có ai giúp được không. While all three phrases can mean similar things, each can work better in different situations. Thus, you must learn all the ways and use them wisely depending on the environment and surroundings.

Now, let us take up widely spoken phrases in the Vietnamese language that call out for help in particular situations.

Vietnamese Phrases When You Are Sick

Đưa tôi đến bệnh viện

English Translation: Take me to the hospital!

When you fall sick in a foreign country, it might get difficult to know the whereabouts of the nearest hospital. Thus, to help yourself, you can ask someone for help by saying, “Take me to the Hospital.” To be more polite, you can say Bác làm ơn đưa tôi đến bệnh viện (Uncle, please take me to the hospital). Here, Bác can be used as a unisex term that you can use to refer to any older or mature person. Adding the word please just makes it more profound for formal situations.

Tôi cần gặp bác sĩ

English Translation: I need to see a doctor.

Another proper way of asking for help when you are sick is to say Tôi cần gặp bác sĩ. This clearly expresses that you need medical attention. Saying something out loud clearly with the mentioning of a doctor will be easier for the Vietnamese ears to understand your needs.

Hiệu thuốc ở đâu

English Translation: Where is the pharmacy?

Another way to overcome a sickness is to know the whereabouts of a pharmacy so that you can get your medicines. Thus, you can ask a local Hiệu thuốc ở đâu, meaning “Where is the pharmacy.” It will help you get to the right place.

Vietnamese Words And Phrases For Emergencies with Transport

Trạm gas ở đâu

English translation: Where is the gas station?

English Translation: Call the police!

Another car-related emergency can be a theft or an accident. The most important thing to do in such a case is to call the local police. So, in Vietnamese phrases, you would say Gọi cảnh sát. It speaks to calling the police and will help you get in touch with the local policeman who will handle your issues.

Vietnamese Emergency Numbers

While knowing some Vietnamese words and phrases will help you reach out to people and seek help, it is still imperative to know some of the essential phone numbers you can dial when in need.

The first number you need to memorize is 112. When there is an urgent natural disaster rescue need, especially when women older than 50 years are present, you need to dial 112, which will send immediate help. You can also report anything related to calamities and health concerns (especially for the aged) to 112.

When you want to report something related to criminal activities or suicide, you need to call 113. In case of a fire emergency, you can call 114. And when you need to call for an ambulance, be it for your older sister, older brother, or even yourself, you simply have to dial 115.

These are the four phone numbers that you should keep in mind when you land in Vietnam. With these in mind, you can have a great trip without unnecessary worries.
