What Are Slovenian Postcodes?

A postal code is a series of letters or numbers or both that define the location of a place or the post office of that place. It is primarily used for mail classification purposes in postal addresses. In many countries, it consists primarily of numbers, but the postal code may contain a series of letters or numbers, sometimes both, and may include spaces or punctuation. Postal codes are important for sorting and delivering mail and packages by location.

Slovenia is a country located in Eastern Europe. Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia. The numeric is “705” and the dialing code is “+386”. The postal system name in Slovenia is “Poštna številka”.

Postal codes are formed of a block of four digits. The first digit represents the sub-division (regions), and the last three digits represent the post office. These four digits are the unchanged last four digits of the code when Slovenia was part of Yugoslavia e.g. without the preceding digit “6”.

The Slovenian authorities prefer that “SI-” is placed before the postal codes, but the rules of the country from which the mail is sent must be defined if you do this. So please before writing a postal address refer to formatting international addresses.

Slovenian Addresses

Addresses may be written in Slovenian, in Italian along the coastal strip, or in Hungarian along the Hungarian border. The format of the Slovenian address is;

Contact Name

Thoroughfare name

[ ] number

[ ] Postal Code

[ ] SETTLEMENT

Example

Aron Beck

Cankarjeva 18

1000 LJUBLJANA

Address blocks written without empty lines are increasingly Common. When a form of address is used, it is written on a line on its own above the recipient’s name in this way;

Gospod

Aron Beck

Two spaces may be placed between the postal code and the town name. Company names and surnames may be found written in UPPER CASE in addresses.

In small rural areas, thoroughfares are not named and each house in the Rural area will have a unique number. In these cases, the thoroughfare name will be replaced with the village name.

The Slovenian authorities prefer that “SI-” be placed before the postal code. Large entities may have their own postal codes, and the address is then written with no street address in this way;

Poštne banke slovenije (Postal banks of Slovenia)

3501 CELJE
