Natural Disasters In The Philippines

Because of its location on the “Pacific Ring of Fire” and in the Pacific typhoon belt, the Philippines is subject to many Tagalog disasters, including tropical storms, fires, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, landslides, and other extreme weather events. Every year, the country is affected by more than 20 tropical cyclones, five of which are generally catastrophic, wreaking havoc on infrastructure as well as human lives.

According to the World Risk Index, around 74 percent of its population of more than 100 million is susceptible to the effects of disaster situations, and the country is consistently ranked among the top ten natural disaster-prone nations in the world. Perhaps, this is why the country’s economy appears to be shaky.
